Security and Defence

The security and defence industry is a strategic vector of growing international importance, both from a technological and geopolitical point of view. Its development is key to guaranteeing sovereignty, resilience to threats and the protection of critical infrastructure, as well as being a driver of innovation and skilled job creation.

Galicia, with its strong industrial fabric linked to the metal sector, has consolidated capabilities in areas such as shipbuilding, engineering, electronics, telecommunications and surveillance and control systems. These capabilities are essential for responding to new challenges in defence and security, both in the civil and military spheres.

Currently, some 30 Galician companies already operate in this area, generating 3,500 jobs, but Asime seeks to involve 150 companies over the next 10 years, which could generate 3,000 new jobs in Galicia.

Galician companies operating in this industry have experience in projects for the armed forces, security forces and international missions, as well as in the development of technological solutions applied to the protection of borders, maritime infrastructure and strategic environments. In addition, Galicia’s location in the north-west of the peninsula, with an extensive coastline and five large port infrastructures, reinforces its role as a geostrategic enclave for surveillance, logistics and maritime support operations. The current international context, marked by growing investment in defence capabilities, cybersecurity and environmental control, opens up new opportunities for industrial development in this area, in which Galicia can play a leading role.
