It is a highly competitive industry at the international level that employs over 19,500 people and represents over 13% of Galicia’s GDP, with a turnover of 9,264 million euros in 2021. More than 15% of the vehicles produced in Spain are manufactured in Galicia.
The Galician automotive industry includes not only manufacturers of passenger cars and industrial vehicles, such as the PSA Peugeot – Citroën plant, but also manufacturers of special off-road vehicles for civil and military use, for public transport, and many internationally renowned bodywork companies. Galicia thus has a consolidated business network covering the entire automotive supply chain, from TIER 1 suppliers to industrial supply companies.
Activities of special relevance are the manufacture of moulds, dies and tools, mechanisers, manufacturers of specialised machinery and automatons, systems manufacturers, metal-mechanical companies, surface treatments and coatings, engineering companies, technology centres, etc.
